About the position

The Shipyard Laborer position at Aerotek involves performing various mechanical duties in a shipyard environment, particularly on naval vessels. The role includes responsibilities such as repairing and maintaining marine equipment, ensuring safety during hot work activities, and assisting in the fabrication of equipment. Responsibilities

• Repairing, troubleshooting, and maintaining boilers, pumps, and valves.
• Working on auxiliary equipment, pumps, valves, and boiler systems aboard ships.
• Establishing and maintaining a preventive maintenance program for marine engines and related equipment.
• Repairing and maintaining hydraulic equipment and valves.
• Operating hand and power tools associated with marine engine and equipment repair.
• Assisting in the fabrication of equipment.
• Monitoring areas where hot work is in progress to prevent fire hazards.
• Ensuring flammable materials are kept away from ignition sources.
• Extinguishing fires immediately or activating fire alarms if necessary.
• Following safety permit conditions and requirements.

Requirements

• General knowledge of shipboard equipment operation, disassembly/assembly, testing, and record keeping.
• General machinist knowledge, including the use of required measuring instruments, necessary hand and power tools.
• Ability to read and understand engineering prints, technical manuals, and diagrams.
• Eligible to get access to the shipyard and obtain DBIDS for future work.

• Opportunity to obtain OSHA 10 Maritime Certification, Firewatch Certification, and Respirator Fit Test Card.
