About the position
Otak is seeking a talented Bridge Designer/EIT to join our dynamic team, renowned for excellence in smart growth planning, sustainable design, and innovative transportation solutions. In this role, you will contribute to a wide range of projects, including vehicular and pedestrian bridges, while working closely with an interdisciplinary team to develop contextually appropriate designs that meet community needs.
Responsibilities
- Perform engineering calculations and analysis for transportation-related structures including vehicular and pedestrian bridges, retaining walls, and civil structures under the supervision of a licensed engineer.
- Communicate with other disciplines and clients through reports, phone calls, and memorandums.
- Prepare engineering sketches and drawings by hand and in CAD for use in construction drawings.
- Support construction projects by reviewing construction submittals for conformance with contract plans and specifications and responding to requests for information.
- Participate in structural inspections, including climbing hillsides and on ladders, and crawling through openings, sometimes in inclement weather.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering is required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in public highway bridge design and construction support projects.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or successfully passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination is required.
- Knowledge/experience in bridge and structural engineering, with familiarity with WSDOT and AASHTO Bridge standards and specifications.
- Proficient in structural design software and AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
Nice-to-haves
- Interest in familiarizing with bridge and structural engineering codes.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
