About the position

The Bridge Project Engineer at Volkert will play a crucial role in designing and analyzing bridge and transportation structures. This position supports the West Gulf Region and offers flexibility with remote or hybrid work options. The engineer will be responsible for supervising calculations, conducting load ratings, and collaborating with clients and professionals to develop effective solutions within project constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Perform/supervise calculations and analysis for designing bridge and transportation structures using various bridge design software programs.
  • Perform/supervise load ratings on bridges of various types, sizes, and complexity.
  • Review calculations and design details developed by others.
  • Attend meetings with clients and other professionals and organizations.
  • Develop solutions to challenges presented by the client within budget, schedule, and project constraints.
  • Review construction-related submittals.
  • Organize and maintain project files.
  • Supervise and mentor Structural EITs and Interns.
  • Assist with marketing bridge and structure design work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Master of Engineering (not required).
  • Valid Professional Engineering Licensure (P.E.).
  • 5 to 9 years of engineering experience in bridge design.
  • MDOT experience is strongly preferred.
  • Skilled in the use of OpenRoads Designer, OpenBridge Designer, STAAD, CSi Bridge, MIDAS, AASHTOWARE BrR, and Mathcad.
  • Technical expertise for the layout & design of bridges and related highway structures.
  • Familiarity with rehabilitation of existing bridges and highway structures.
  • Knowledge of AASHTO and other pertinent bridge design specifications.
  • Familiarity with MDOT bridge standards and design manuals.
