About the position
The Bridge Technical Lead at HDR is responsible for standardizing design procedures, improving efficiencies, and serving as a technical expert for the structures team in Eastern and Central Pennsylvania. This role involves mentoring staff, ensuring compliance with quality standards, and supporting project managers in delivering complex infrastructure projects. The position requires a strong background in bridge design and leadership skills to guide less-experienced engineers.
Responsibilities
- Standardize local design procedures and ensure alignment with HDR QA/QC requirements.
- Educate and direct staff on design manuals, standards, and best practices.
- Onboard new bridge staff and familiarize them with local practices and resources.
- Conduct 'over the shoulder' reviews to ensure proper procedures are followed.
- Serve as a technical expert in engineering analysis and design.
- Mentor less-experienced staff and provide guidance.
- Act as the workshare liaison for local staff on complex projects in other offices.
- Collaborate with local PMs and Section Managers to develop staffing plans.
- Develop or review technical and price proposals for local projects.
- Participate in monthly section meetings to share knowledge on technical concepts.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- Minimum of 10 years of bridge design experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Proven hands-on experience in all aspects of bridge design projects.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, GEOPAK, AutoCAD, and MicroStation.
- Experience with structural analysis programs and bridge design software.
- Demonstrated leadership and communication skills.
- Project management skills are desirable.
