About the position

As a Broadband Technician II, you will be responsible for performing intermediate to complex installations, disconnects, and service changes for residential customers, including Fiber to the Home (FTTH) services. This role involves troubleshooting from the tap to the customer's electronic devices and performing construction and maintenance tasks related to fiber optic and coaxial cable systems. You will work with various telecommunications services, ensuring quality and compliance with safety standards while promoting company services to customers.

Responsibilities

  • Perform intermediate and complex installation of cable wiring and hardware for customer services.
  • Inspect and correct NESC safety violations for new construction builds and service drops.
  • Coordinate underground drop burial work with contractors and in-house crews.
  • Fill out, submit, and pick up permits from government agencies as required.
  • Ensure work performed meets construction and government standards.
  • Perform connects, disconnects, upgrades, downgrades, and relocations of services.
  • Utilize test equipment to identify and repair signal strength issues.
  • Read and interpret system maps and calculate signal loss using signal level meters.
  • Climb poles, ladders, or towers as necessary for installations and repairs.
  • Monitor and record system leakage and maintain accurate work records.
  • Promote and educate customers on company services and proper equipment usage.

Requirements

  • 1+ year basic technical telecommunications experience or current/prior military service with honorable discharge.
  • 6+ months of basic fiber optic and/or copper cable splicing and repair experience.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Ability to maintain DOT requirements for operating vehicles over 10,000 lbs.
  • Strong work ethic and reliability with a focus on teamwork.
  • Practical knowledge of computer applications or burial construction.
  • Demonstrated customer service and sales skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Successful completion of the SCTE Broadband Premise Technician course.
  • SCTE Service Technician Certification or equivalent training.
