About the position

WTAE-TV, the ABC affiliate in Pittsburgh, PA, is seeking a part-time Broadcast Production Assistant to join our dynamic production crew. This role is essential in ensuring that our live broadcasts and post-production processes run smoothly. The ideal candidate will be a team player who understands the flexible scheduling demands of the broadcast industry. As a Broadcast Production Assistant, you will be responsible for operating the teleprompter during live broadcasts and assisting in various production tasks to guarantee a successful broadcast. Your contributions will be vital in maintaining the high standards of our programming and ensuring that our audience receives the best possible viewing experience. In this position, you will engage in a variety of responsibilities that include moving and handling props and sets during productions, as well as the construction, maintenance, installation, and operation of props, cameras, prompters, sets, and other production equipment. You will also be involved in lighting and script preparation for newscasts, ensuring that all elements are in place for a seamless broadcast. Maintaining the appearance of the studios is another key aspect of this role, which includes cleaning the set and floors to create a professional environment. Additionally, you may be required to climb ladders to change light bulbs and adjust fixtures on the grid, assisting directors as needed to enhance the production quality. This position reports directly to the News Operations Manager, and you will be expected to handle the stresses and pressures that come with time-sensitive newscast production. Your ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances will be crucial in this fast-paced environment.
