About the position

Professional Lines - Broker I. We are a successful Managing General Agency (MGA) and Wholesale Broker looking for a dedicated Broker to join our organization. This position manages a book of business, and a qualified individual will need to be able to both underwrite and serve as a broker depending upon the account. In this position, there is a great deal of email, phone, and overall computer work. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Professional Lines, with at least 5 years of experience in the field. The role requires a State Property & Casualty Brokers License and a four-year college degree is preferred. The Broker will be responsible for effectively communicating information to both internal and external customers, ensuring that standards of excellence are maintained. The position also involves assisting in developing, enhancing, and maintaining standards, processes, and procedures as required. Participation in ongoing training and educational opportunities with an emphasis on Professional Liability is expected. The Broker will assist in the training of assistants and associate brokers as required, maintain electronic files in accordance with the company's guidelines, and ensure that each risk is entered into the system correctly and completely. The role requires working closely with carrier underwriters to determine pricing, coverage, and acceptability of risks, as well as gathering any additional information needed by the carrier and serving as the liaison between the carrier and retail agent. The Broker will create, analyze, and interpret data from various systems or sources and underwriting resources to determine the degree of risk for an applicant based on factors such as financial standing, business operations, and loss experience. Familiarity with surplus lines tax calculations and state filing requirements is also necessary. The Broker will be expected to build a book of new business and maintain assigned renewal accounts while maintaining confidentiality with discretion and integrity regarding both internal and external information. Building and maintaining relationships with contract agents, particularly Target agents, is a key aspect of the role. The Broker will review all assigned new business applications, request any additional information or documentation needed for carriers, maintain communication with agents on all new and/or renewal business submissions, order inspections, and address any recommendations as required by underwriting guidelines. Mentoring assistants and other staff, negotiating the best terms and coverages available with accessible markets, and recognizing new trends and developments in the insurance industry to incorporate or adjust strategies are also part of the job responsibilities.
