About the position

To assist in the delivery of primary health care and patient care management in a clinical and/or administrative capacity. Daily responsibilities of the position are based solely on the needs of the practice at any given time.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the triage nurse by doing vital signs and escorting patients and families to designated rooms within departments.
  • Performs and documents a physical systems review under the direction and supervision of the professional nurse.
  • Begins interventions based on observation, interview of patient and/or significant other, physician diagnosis, lab findings, and other pertinent information.
  • Reviews patient condition and vital signs and documents minimum of every two hours.
  • Performs and documents a history including chief complaint, past history, allergies, previous episodes and treatment, quality of pain or symptoms, and other relevant information.
  • Assists the nurse with plan of care based on observation and/or interview of the patient/significant other.
  • Documents discharge/health teaching based on the patient/family/learning needs.
  • Participates in patient care conferences with the ER physician.
  • Checks and documents on check off list, room assignments and crash carts to ensure adequate supplies and equipment.
  • Implements a plan of care based on systems review data.
  • Uses judgment to follow standards of care under the direction and supervision of the nurse.
  • Assists with patient care in critical care and general areas.
  • Performs routine equipment checks.
  • Identifies dysrhythmia and relays information to Nurses and Physicians.
  • Initiates treatments per protocol including CPR, intubation, and administering emergency drugs.
  • Operates and checks equipment such as cardiac monitors and defibrillators.
  • Transports patients for treatment, diagnostic procedures, and admissions.
  • Prepares patients for exams.
  • Documents and maintains records and charts according to department protocol.

Requirements

  • Must be an Indiana State Emergency Medical Services Commission licensed EMT-Paramedic.
  • Preferred experience is 1-2 years.
