About the position

The BSA/AML Compliance Analyst plays a crucial role in safeguarding the financial system from criminal abuse by supporting the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) at Brookline Bancorp, Inc. This position involves conducting due diligence and enhanced due diligence on customers, investigating alerts for potentially higher risk activities, and ensuring compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and economic sanctions programs. The analyst will collaborate with various teams to maintain the integrity of anti-money laundering policies and contribute to the overall mission of the FIU.

Responsibilities

  • Perform due diligence and enhanced due diligence analysis on new customers and beneficial owners.
  • Remediate incomplete and insufficient due diligence information for customer money laundering risk ratings.
  • Conduct research and investigations of higher risk customers for suitability according to the Bank's standards.
  • Perform enhanced due diligence reviews on higher money laundering risk customers.
  • Collect and review annual due diligence questionnaires for designated higher risk customer segments.
  • Update and maintain the integrity of monitoring system data, including customer risk factors.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation in accordance with FIU standards to support due diligence conclusions.
  • Prepare and present case summaries and reports to the Bank's SAR Committee as required.
  • Produce and maintain quality work within mandated deadlines according to FIU and regulatory standards.
  • Provide support and guidance to business line partners regarding BSA and financial crimes matters.
  • Collaborate with other FIU members to achieve strategic objectives and comply with regulations.
  • Escalate issues requiring attention from FIU AML supervisors, managers, and the BSA Officer.
  • Perform ancillary duties as directed by FIU AML supervisors, managers, and the BSA Officer.
  • Incorporate feedback from FIU AML supervisors and managers to improve productivity and quality.
  • Maintain knowledge of emerging financial crimes trends in daily tasks.
  • Preserve the integrity of the Company's anti-money laundering and economic sanctions policies.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a BSA/AML or sanctions role within a financial institution or similar role.
  • Sound practical knowledge of BSA/AML regulations, particularly surrounding customer due diligence (CDD) and Know Your Customer (KYC) standards.
  • Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) or equivalent advanced certification preferred.
  • Familiarity with Verafin systems is a plus.
  • Comprehensive understanding of products, services, and transaction processing channels within a financial institution.
  • Strong analytic, research, and investigative skills.
  • Excellent prioritizing, time management, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Exceptional quality and integrity of work produced within tight deadlines.
  • Ability to function both independently and within collaborative team environments.
  • Solid computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office products.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) or equivalent advanced certification preferred.
  • Familiarity with Verafin systems.
