About The Position

The BSAS Certified Peer Specialist/Recovery Coach at River Valley Counseling Center is responsible for providing support and guidance to individuals in recovery from substance use disorders. This role involves facilitating peer support groups, assisting clients with recovery efforts, and providing information and referral services for recovery-related consumer services. The position emphasizes harm reduction strategies and aims to foster a supportive environment for clients to navigate their recovery journey.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of five years of lived expertise in recovery and willingness to share this experience.
• One year of community-based substance use recovery work experience.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
• Proficiency in using Google Suites (sheets & docs) and Microsoft Suites (Excel and Word) is required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

• Certified as a Peer Specialist preferred or to be completed within the first 6 months of employment.
• CPR Certification preferred and offered by RVCC.

Responsibilities

• Provide or assist in providing information and referral services for recovery-related consumer services.
• Support clients' recovery efforts and teach harm reduction strategies.
• Facilitate peer support groups and provide individual support for medication adherence issues.
• Assist individuals and families in completing applications related to life management, such as medical coverage and housing.
• Conduct outreach services for program participants to access community and medical services, including arranging transportation.
• Provide emotional support, supportive referrals, and assist with adherence issues for medical care.
