About the position

The Budget & Accounting Analyst I position is responsible for reconciling financial accounts, preparing financial statements, and assisting in the development and monitoring of departmental budgets. This role involves analyzing financial impacts, preparing reports, and providing technical assistance to section leaders under the supervision of the Accounting Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Reconcile financial accounts with the county auditor's computer system.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and other financial reports as needed.
  • Assist in end-of-year closings.
  • Help prepare, review, and develop the department budget by working with assigned sections.
  • Monitor departmental budgets, including completing monthly and quarterly revenue and expense forecasts.
  • Analyze the financial impact of internal and external factors on department activities.
  • Prepare written reports that communicate financial and/or programmatic status.
  • Monitor performance and assist in researching benchmarks and best practices in the public sector.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to section leaders.
  • Process fiscal transactions as requested, such as encumbrance vouchers and employee reimbursements.
  • Participate in committees and work groups as needed.
  • Attend fiscal meetings/training with the Accounting Supervisor.
  • Meet all job safety requirements and applicable OSHA safety standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, political science, or economics.
  • Two years of experience in finance, accounting, or a related field.
