The Budget/Accounting Analyst will serve primarily to review and approve spending and reimbursement against various funding sources within Basic Science Research Administrative POD3. This role is crucial in ensuring that financial resources are allocated appropriately and that all expenditures align with the project's goals and funding requirements. Basic Science Research Administrative POD3 is a collaborative group of professionals dedicated to providing administrative support to several departments and centers, including Molecular Physiology & Biophysics, Pharmacology, the Warren Center for Neuroscience Drug Discovery, the Vanderbilt Brain Institute, the Center of Quantitative Systems Biology, the Center for Applied AI in Protein Dynamics, and the Vanderbilt Center for Addiction Research. The team is divided into three specialized areas: pre-award, post-award, and procurement, each focusing on different aspects of financial management and support. In this position, the analyst will prepare monthly financial and forecast reports for assigned faculty, ensuring that all salary and fringe benefits are accurately charged to the appropriate projects. The analyst will analyze financial results and conduct research to identify corrective actions for any discrepancies, such as deficits or inappropriate salary and non-salary items on POET centers. Regular meetings with faculty will be scheduled to review financials, discuss action plans for project balances, and address any changes in effort or other miscellaneous items. The analyst will also be responsible for preparing and submitting retro cost transfers (RCTs) to remove unallowable expenses and deficits, following up on all salary and non-salary cost transfers to ensure they post correctly. Additionally, the analyst will review Federal Financial Reports (FFRs) for appropriateness and approve them, ensuring that all data aligns with Research Finance closeout numbers. This may involve communication with the Research Finance and Administrative Officer (AO) to clarify questions and ensure that expenditures are allocable, allowable, and consistent with the project's aims. The analyst will assist the AO in gathering extensive financial information for annual budget submissions and work with the pre-award team to ensure new projects are requested and cost-shared appropriately. Other responsibilities include preparing internal project budgets for revisions and renewals and completing space surveys for assigned areas. The analyst will independently manage assigned projects, ensuring that all financial activities are conducted in compliance with university policies and funding regulations.
