About the position

The Budget Analyst 2 position within the Nevada Department of Corrections involves preparing and implementing budgets, analyzing budget requests, and ensuring compliance with budgetary regulations. The role requires oversight of budgets, development of automated budgetary systems, and presentation of budgets at various meetings, including legislative hearings. The analyst will also conduct statistical analyses, develop policy recommendations, and monitor performance indicators.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and implement budgets including expenditure projections and spending plans.
  • Review and analyze budget requests and adjustments for compliance.
  • Control and oversee budgets to ensure compliance with authorized spending limitations.
  • Monitor budgets through audit reports and internal controls.
  • Design and maintain automated budgetary systems to track expenditures and revenue.
  • Develop and maintain spreadsheets, databases, and tables for budget tracking.
  • Present budgets at agency meetings and legislative hearings.
  • Provide testimony and consult with legislative fiscal staff.
  • Prepare and analyze legislative bill drafts and fiscal notes.
  • Research and develop policy recommendations related to fiscal practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business or public administration, accounting, finance, economics, or a closely related field.
  • Three years of professional budgeting, accounting, economic or management analysis experience, with one year equivalent to a Budget Analyst I in Nevada State service.
  • Valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.
