About the position

The Budget Analyst 3 position at the Iowa Department of Corrections - Central Office is responsible for overseeing budget projections for both the Central Office and the Board of Parole. This role includes reviewing and managing the budgets of nine prisons and eight community-based corrections facilities, serving as the pre-auditor for financial transactions, maintaining financial records for grants and special funding, coordinating purchasing in line with state procurement policies, and preparing financial reports as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for budget projections for Central Office and the Board of Parole.
  • Review and oversee the budgets of 9 prisons and 8 community-based corrections facilities.
  • Serve as the pre-auditor of all financial transactions for Central Office and the Board of Parole.
  • Maintain financial records for grants and special funding for Central Office and the Board of Parole.
  • Coordinate all purchasing in accordance with State of Iowa procurement policies.
  • Prepare and/or review financial reports and collect/maintain other required data.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in accounting, finance, or business administration, and three years of full-time work in professional level budget analysis or fiscal management.
  • Three years of full-time work experience in professional level budget analysis or fiscal management, and a total of four years of education and/or full-time experience with thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in accounting, finance, or business administration equaling one year of full-time experience.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in business administration or public administration, and two years of full-time work experience in professional level budget analysis or fiscal management, and a total of four years of education and/or full-time experience with twenty-four semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in accounting, finance, or business administration equaling one year of full-time experience.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a Budget Analyst 2.
