About the position

The Budget Analyst for Academic & Student Affairs at Northampton Community College plays a crucial role in ensuring the effective management and allocation of financial resources within the division. Reporting directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, the Budget Analyst will be instrumental in maximizing resource utilization by identifying common needs across various programs and eliminating duplicative expenditures. This position is essential for supporting the planning and growth of the division while also addressing the accreditation requirements set forth by Middle States. The Budget Analyst will coordinate, document, and assess budget planning and prioritization, monitor the impact of budgeting on program and student learning outcomes, and contribute to the achievement of the college's mission and strategic objectives. The responsibilities of the Budget Analyst include participating in the annual budget development process, collaborating with department heads and college deans to create accurate and realistic budget projections based on historical data, enrollment trends, and funding sources. The analyst will also monitor and track budget expenditures throughout the fiscal year, identifying variances and recommending necessary adjustments. Additionally, the Budget Analyst will prepare reports and presentations to communicate budget information to stakeholders, including the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs, college deans, and program heads. In terms of financial analysis and reporting, the Budget Analyst will analyze budget data to identify trends, cost drivers, and areas for potential cost savings or resource reallocation. They will prepare various financial reports, including budget versus actual reports and variance analyses, and assist in developing budget reports for external stakeholders such as funding agencies and accreditation bodies. Furthermore, the Budget Analyst will provide financial guidance and support to academic departments on budget development, spending management, and financial reporting, while also training faculty and staff on budget policies and procedures. The role requires collaboration with other departments, such as Finance and Human Resources, to ensure compliance with college-wide financial policies. Additional responsibilities may include monitoring grant proposals and budgets, conducting research on the cost-benefit of new programs, and maintaining budget models and forecasting tools. Overall, the Budget Analyst is expected to work cooperatively with other departments and contribute to the college's mission and goals.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the annual budget development process for the Academic and Student Affairs division, collaborating with department heads and college deans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) approved institution in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in budget analysis, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to function effectively as a member of the administrative team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators at all levels.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other financial software applications.
