About the position

The Budget Analyst B - SES position at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) involves coordinating budgeting, accounting, and financial management functions for the Office of Executive Direction and Administrative Support Services. The role requires developing an understanding of operational needs, assisting in budget management, and conducting financial analysis to support the agency's mission of managing fish and wildlife resources effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the budgeting, accounting, and financial management functions for the OED budget entity.
  • Serve as budgetary liaison for specific programs and offices throughout the fiscal year.
  • Develop an understanding of the operational needs of assigned programs and offices.
  • Prepare, analyze, and interpret allotments, expenditures, and encumbrances within OED programs and offices.
  • Coordinate the preparation of monthly office budget reports and projections to identify and address anticipated surplus and deficits.
  • Provide directive guidance to improve the management of program and office budgets.
  • Conduct special projects/analysis related to department budget and expenditure data.
  • Prepare salary forecasts on a regular basis or as assigned.
  • Serve as Budget Officer for the OED budget entity and facilitate regular meetings with OED leadership.
  • Provide guidance and training related to budgetary information and processes.
  • Represent the OED budget entity in enterprise teams concerning budget and/or financial management.
  • Coordinate the payment of monthly invoices associated with various charges.
  • Assist with Legislative Budget Requests, budget amendment request processing, and personnel actions.
  • Inform Budget Director of work progress and issues requiring additional attention.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with Divisions and Offices.

Requirements

  • Seven (7) years of experience in development and management of state budgets.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Three (3) years of state budgeting experience can substitute for the required work experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the LAS/PBS system.
