About the position

The Budget Analyst position at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering involves performing specialized budgetary and accounting services for designated departments, including Chemical & Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering. The role focuses on managing budgets from both Florida State University (FSU) and Florida A&M University (FAMU), ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and providing detailed financial reports and analyses. The analyst will support budget planning, monitor expenditures, and assist in grant management, contributing to the financial integrity of the departments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform specialized budgetary services and accounting activities related to budgetary reports and long-range budget planning.
  • Manage budgets from both FSU and FAMU, including E&G, auxiliary, Foundations, and C&G.
  • Report monthly on budget status for all types of funding.
  • Prepare specialized and complex reports, including ad hoc reports as requested by Chair/Supervisor.
  • In conjunction with the Chair, prepare annual budget requests and provide budget support in accordance with regulatory guidance.
  • Monitor daily budget transactions and analyze, process, and pre-approve expenditures from related budgets.
  • Reconcile assigned budgets on a monthly basis and monitor grant activity weekly to ensure budget adherence.
  • Assist in the preparation of Sponsored Research Award documents and budget management for assigned awards and budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and perform financial reconciliations as assigned.
  • Create and maintain precise desktop procedures for the department to ensure financial integrity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and one year of experience, or a high school diploma and five years of experience, or a combination of post-high school education and experience equal to five years.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
