About the position

The Budget Analyst position within the House Appropriations Committee of the Florida Legislature serves as a technical expert on budgeting matters. This role involves researching and preparing proposed budgets, analyzing revenue and expenditure data, and providing support to legislators and the public. The analyst will work closely with committee members and staff to ensure legislative intent is met and to assist in the planning and execution of committee activities.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and summarize proposed legislation to determine its effects and impacts.
• Research and draft legislation and amendments as directed by committee leadership.
• Assist in planning committee and subcommittee meetings, including agenda and materials preparation.
• Monitor the implementation of legislation in the Executive Branch to ensure compliance with legislative intent.
• Brief legislators on issues for discussion in committee or with constituents.
• Conceive, plan, and conduct research projects and legislatively mandated studies.
• Prepare oral and written reports on research and committee work, including recommendations for legislative action.
• Provide information and problem-solving assistance to legislators and the public.
• Prepare correspondence, summaries, and informational materials on committee issues as requested.
• Stay informed on new and ongoing issues affecting assigned responsibilities through various means.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Three years of professional experience in research, analysis, program planning, and evaluation, or administrative work.
• A master's degree can substitute for one year of required experience.
• A doctorate can substitute for two years of required experience.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge and experience in state budgeting.
• Experience in education, transportation, economic development, justice, health care, environmental protection, or general government.
