About the position

The Budget Analyst I position at Wake Forest University serves as a financial analyst for the Reynolda Campus, providing essential administrative support to the Budget and Financial Planning office. The role involves managing day-to-day budget responsibilities, including reviewing fund availability and conducting data analysis to support financial decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Validate budget availability for Workday transactions related to Human Capital Management or Financial processes.
  • Approve transactions and track data related to expenses, collaborating with business managers, HR, payroll, or finance to resolve issues.
  • Assist the Budget and Financial Planning team with financial projects and profitability analysis of auxiliary units or new initiatives.
  • Prepare and coordinate various financial analyses for senior management.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for Budget and Financial Planning and Workday Adaptive Planning.
  • Prepare, develop, test, and train users on Workday and Adaptive Planning for the annual budget cycle.
  • Assist campus users in developing and submitting annual budgets and forecasts in Workday Adaptive Planning.
  • Conduct information research and analysis, including benchmarking exercises and presentations.
  • Develop presentations for executive and departmental meetings.
  • Coordinate day-to-day office activities, including scheduling meetings and processing invoices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline with 1-2 years of related financial work experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets, including template development and pivot tables.
  • Ability to represent analysis results in PowerPoint presentations and Excel graphs.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret policy and procedural questions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of fund accounting principles and budget preparation.
  • Experience in budgeting or strategic planning for an academic environment.
  • Familiarity with sources for researching higher education issues.
  • Experience maintaining business processes and report writing for Workday and Adaptive Planning.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets.
