About the position

The Budget Analyst I position involves preparing, reviewing, and presenting budgets by analyzing budgetary inputs, historical data, and performance measures. The role includes formulating budget recommendations, proposing modifications to existing budgets, and assisting with various financial management tasks in compliance with accounting principles and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Compiles data based on statistical studies and analyses of past and current years to prepare budgets and justify funds requested.
  • Correlates appropriations for specific programs and includes items for emergency funds.
  • Reviews operating budgets to analyze trends affecting budget needs.
  • Consults with supervisors to ensure adjustments are made in accordance with program changes for long-term planning.
  • Prepares standard or special budget reports to interpret budget directives and establish policies for implementation.
  • Prepares comparative analyses of operating programs by analyzing costs in relation to services performed in previous fiscal years and submits reports with recommendations for budget revisions.
  • Testifies before examining authorities and fund granting authorities regarding proposed budgets to clarify reports and gain support for estimated budget needs.
  • Completes required paperwork and requisitions for purchases in compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Maintains data integrity for assigned aspects of the financial system and reviews accuracy of information.
  • Plans duties in accordance with set deadline requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting, or six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three additional years of experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of Accounting, Database, Internet software, Inventory software, Order processing software, Payroll systems, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with a verified driving history.

  • Intermediate computer skills.

  • Ability to analyze, produce, and interpret financial statements.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
