The Budget Analyst II position is a critical role within the Department of Personnel & Administration (DPA) of the State of Colorado, primarily supporting the Budget Director for assigned divisions. This position is responsible for collaborating closely with division and finance leadership to prepare for upcoming budgetary adjustments that may arise from various factors such as business process changes, workload changes, legislative mandates, emergencies, and technical errors. The analyst will solicit information from management to develop comprehensive budget requests and is tasked with the creation of multiple documents essential for the annual budget process. In addition to budget development, the Budget Analyst II will provide ongoing support to divisions through budget monitoring, rate setting, fund balance monitoring, and addressing budget-related inquiries in collaboration with accounting and procurement teams. This role requires a thorough understanding of assigned programs and the ability to coordinate effectively across various staff members to ensure project success. The analyst will also work closely with the assigned accountant to review revenues, expenditures, and trends to maintain accurate fund balance projections. Furthermore, this position may serve as a backup for the Budget Director and the Data Analytics Team, particularly in relation to the statewide total compensation process. This may involve preparing templates, manipulating and analyzing large datasets, and writing narratives to support budgetary decisions.
