About the position

The Budget Analyst II position at Bellevue School District is responsible for facilitating, developing, implementing, and monitoring the budget across all funds, departments, and schools. This role involves complex financial analysis, long-term financial planning, and advising on fiscal policies, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations while supporting budget owners in planning and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Leads complex financial analysis and monitors large-scale district operations.
  • Conducts financial analysis at the district-wide level and contributes to long-term financial planning.
  • Leads district-wide budget development and preparation.
  • Audits submitted data, resolves discrepancies, and prepares department and school budgets.
  • Ensures budget practices comply with school district and state regulations.
  • Communicates complex financial reports to senior leadership and provides recommendations based on budget projections.
  • Partners with budget owners, schools, and departments regarding budget planning and reconciliations.
  • Analyzes budget trends and expenditures, providing support for future budget planning.
  • Maintains the general ledger account codes and position codes for the district.
  • Reviews and prepares journal entries and budget adjustments.
  • Develops financial models for district-wide strategic initiatives.
  • Monitors staff levels and analyzes labor costs in collaboration with human resources.
  • Responds to state auditor's questions regarding the budget.
  • Provides timely notifications to budget owners about changes impacting budget projections.
  • Assists in maintaining models for bonds, levies, and capital project funds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration with emphasis in finance or accounting, or related analytical field.
  • Prior budgeting analysis experience in a large, complex organization.

Nice-to-haves

  • 8 years of experience in financial analysis, with expertise in K-12 financial systems and strategic budgeting.
  • Experience with school finance in the state of Washington.
