The Budget Analyst II position at the Douglas County Sheriff's Office is a full-time role focused on financial analysis, budgeting, and accounting practices. The analyst will contribute to the development and evaluation of the Sheriff's Office annual budget, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and providing financial insights to management for decision-making. This role requires proficiency in financial software and strong analytical skills to monitor budgets and analyze financial results.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development, evaluation, and presentation of the Sheriff's Office annual budget.
  • Provide fiscal and trend analyses, developing revenue and expenditure forecasts.
  • Assist management staff in preparing cost center budgets and budget requests.
  • Evaluate coding/categorization of eVouchers and purchasing card transactions for compliance with accounting principles.
  • Develop financial models and conduct specialized research projects for decision-making.
  • Monitor annual capital expenditure and non-capital equipment budgets.
  • Analyze ongoing financial results versus budgets and identify variances.
  • Prepare correcting journal entries and budget reallocations as necessary.
  • Record transactions for the Seizure Fund and generate reporting information for relevant boards.
  • Generate payments from the inmate accounting system and compile annual 1099 reporting information.
  • Participate in the annual physical inventory of controllable and capital assets.
  • Act as a key financial resource for all levels of Sheriff's Office management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field.
  • Three years of relevant experience, preferably in the public sector.
  • Intermediate user-level competency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and QuickBooks.
  • Strong mathematical skills and ability to develop complex formulas.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting and budgeting principles and practices.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in both oral and written form.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with JD Edwards financial software and other custom accounting programs.
