About the position

The Budget Analyst II position at Spelman College is responsible for projecting and monitoring the college's budgets, assisting department heads in budget preparation, and analyzing financial performance. This role supports the Associate Director of Budgets and Contracts and plays a crucial part in ensuring optimal resource allocation and compliance with budgetary policies.

Responsibilities

  • Forecast the fiscal impact of college decisions and make recommendations for resource allocation.
  • Perform business-related analyses and financial modeling, developing analytical reports.
  • Proactively monitor budgets to analyze variances and ensure accuracy, providing explanations for variances.
  • Monitor and communicate financial performance, ensuring the unrestricted budget remains balanced.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the position control budget in collaboration with various departments.
  • Prepare monthly position budget reconciliations and assist budget managers with annual projections.
  • Prepare monthly and/or quarterly budget-to-actual reports of operating expenses.
  • Assist in drafting budget reports and correspondence for senior management.
  • Utilize Anaplan, Microsoft Excel, and BANNER software for budget preparation and maintenance.
  • Approve and process budget adjustments in accordance with college policies.
  • Work with budget managers to address budget deficits and improve budgeting processes.
  • Communicate the status of funds to budget managers for decision-making regarding budget reallocation.
  • Review general ledger entries for accuracy and approve requests for supplemental pay.
  • Maintain departmental data and assist with BANNER-based projects, ensuring database integrity.
  • Participate in cross-training and collaborate with others to achieve college goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of job-related and progressive work experience.
  • Ability to interact with diverse populations and exercise tact and diplomacy.
  • Familiarity with college research resources and professional maturity.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload under pressure.
  • Proficiency in reconciliations, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
