About the position

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for providing complex budget and financial support services within the realm of clinical research. The role involves reviewing, analyzing, and preparing budget-related documents, requests, and specialized reports that are essential for the financial management of clinical research projects. The individual will work closely with department clinical research staff to identify research-related activities and develop coverage analyses that ensure all financial aspects are adequately addressed. A significant part of the job includes reviewing clinical research protocols, informed consent documents, budgets, and agreements. The position requires the ability to interpret and negotiate financial terms and conditions of clinical research agreements, ensuring compliance with institutional policies, federal regulations, and other relevant guidelines. The individual will provide financial and administrative support for clinical research, regardless of the funding source, and will input clinical research financial information into the clinical trial management system (CTMS). Collaboration is key in this role, as the individual will coordinate with clinical research staff, Research Protection Programs, the Office of Sponsored Programs, and the Institutional Compliance & Privacy Office to ensure that all financial operations align with institutional standards and regulatory requirements. This position is critical in maintaining the integrity and efficiency of the financial processes associated with clinical research.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews clinical research protocols, informed consent documents, budgets, and agreements.
  • Collaborates with department clinical research staff to identify research-related activities and develops coverage analysis.
  • Reviews and interprets industry, private, and federally sponsored clinical research agreements.
  • Negotiates financial terms and conditions of clinical research agreements.
  • Provides financial and administrative support for clinical research regardless of funding source.
  • Ensures compliance with institutional policies and procedures and federal regulations related to clinical research.
  • Inputs clinical research financial information into the clinical trial management system (CTMS).
  • Works in coordination with clinical research staff, Research Protection Programs, Office of Sponsored Programs, and Institutional Compliance & Privacy Office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Three (3) years of budgetary experience is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of contracts and budgeting.
  • Demonstrated budget, financial, and accounting skills.
  • Skilled in prioritizing, planning, and organizing assignments; working effectively under tight schedules, and completing tasks in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently access and retrieve information from databases, and to organize and process the data for analytical purposes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing on budget and cost issues.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, financial systems, and databases.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge in higher education fund accounting and budgeting preferred.
  • Clinical research experience preferred.
