About the position

The Budget Analyst IV position at Helena College University of Montana is a full-time role responsible for the analytical management of complex budgeting processes. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the Executive Director of Fiscal Services and involves supervising other finance staff, ensuring compliance with financial policies, and providing training and guidance to departmental directors. The role requires a high level of judgment and independent problem-solving skills to manage diverse financial accounts and improve existing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Independently reconcile, analyze, and summarize enterprise level data for department directors.
  • Apply budgeting and accounting theory to various problems using analytical processes.
  • Provide budget system level fiscal management of diverse financial accounts.
  • Make assessments regarding a specific unit's financial condition or long-range financial planning.
  • Provide accounting guidance to departments as applicable.
  • Prepare journal entries and ensure audit compliance with federal and state entities.
  • Analyze accounts and issue complex financial reports.
  • Develop procedures to streamline and improve existing processes.
  • Accurately record all wire transactions within Banner and SABHRS software modules.
  • Reconcile accounts and resolve discrepancies.
  • Assist with budget preparation and entry for all institutional funds.
  • Perform technical/professional accounting work for major fund groups used by the University.
  • Assist in procurements, fixed assets fee schedules, and special projects as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 2 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting.
  • Direct knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Teams, and Outlook.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Ellucian Banner.
  • Experience with SABHRS, State Accounting Bureau, and Human Resource System.
  • Experience with reconciliation.
  • Experience in fund/governmental accounting or higher education accounting.
