About the position

The Budget Analyst Junior position at Duval County Public Schools is an entry-level professional role focused on budget work performed under established procedures and supervision. The primary responsibility of this position is to assist in the development and review of school and departmental budgets, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and internal checks. The analyst will analyze and monitor fiscal transactions, working closely with schools and district department financial personnel to secure and evaluate information, provide feedback, and ensure adherence to budgetary requests. In this role, the Budget Analyst Junior will assist schools in preparing and balancing their budgets for both spring and fall. This includes meeting with and advising school and district administrators on budget development processes. The analyst will also review and process various budget-related setups, including additions and deletions of positions, and manage payments for personnel working outside their normal contracts. Additionally, the analyst will assemble fiscal information necessary for budget preparation and review documentation for completeness and compliance with directives. Monitoring expenditures is a critical function of this role, as the analyst will make recommendations to help meet budget targets. The position also involves reviewing cost coding for purchase requisitions and district expenditures, maintaining files of relevant directives and budgetary documents, and recommending procedures for the budget process. The analyst will compose correspondence and other office documents, answer inquiries from schools and departments, and resolve issues related to SAP, budget transfers, and year-end closing. Other duties may be assigned as necessary, and the position includes a probationary period of one year.

Responsibilities

  • Assists schools with preparing and balancing spring and fall budgets.
  • Meets with and advises school and district administrators on budget development.
  • Reviews and processes setups, additions, and deletions of positions.
  • Assembles fiscal information for use in budget preparation.
  • Reviews documentation for completeness and conformity with directives.
  • Monitors expenditures and makes recommendations for meeting budget targets.
  • Reviews cost coding for purchase requisitions and district expenditures.
  • Maintains files of applicable directives, procedures, policies, and budgetary documents.
  • Recommends procedures and assists in developing forms used in the budget process.
  • Composes correspondence and other office documents.
  • Answers inquiries for schools and/or departments and provides resolution for SAP issues, budget transfers, purchase requisitions, PCFs, FTEs, and year-end closing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Four (4) year combination of education, training, and/or experience in financial and budgetary analysis.
  • Experience with a large, complex organization such as a public school district or state department of education preferred.
  • Valid Florida Driver's license may be required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment.
