About the position

The Budget Analyst position at the Department of Defense involves the formulation, presentation, and execution of the annual operating budget. The role is critical in ensuring that funds are allocated properly and spent effectively, while also monitoring budget execution and making necessary adjustments in response to program changes. The analyst will perform in-depth analyses of budget requests and prepare essential documents for budget processing.

Responsibilities

  • Formulate, present, and execute the annual operating budget.
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement policies and guidelines for funding appropriations.
  • Monitor the execution of the approved operating budget to ensure proper allocation and timely spending of funds.
  • Recommend adjustments within budget line items based on program changes and funding availability.
  • Review and approve obligations and expenditures, including personnel salaries and travel expenses.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of budget requests and explore alternative funding sources.
  • Prepare documents for budget estimates, supplemental appropriations, and reprogramming requests.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • One year of specialized experience in budget monitoring and reporting.
  • Level 1 Certification in Financial Management (FMC01) required within 60 months of employment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with federal budget processes and regulations.
  • Knowledge of financial systems and funding reconciliation.
