About the position

The Budget Analyst position at the Department of Defense involves managing day-to-day budget and financial issues, including budget formulation, execution, and administration. The role requires providing guidance on budgeting processes and conducting analyses of budget-related information. The analyst will utilize automated systems to support budgeting tasks and ensure compliance with financial regulations and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the functional point of contact for day-to-day budget/financial issues.
  • Perform budget formulation work involving review and preparation of budget estimates and financial plans.
  • Monitor obligations incurred and actual expenditures of funds during budget execution and administration.
  • Provide advice, assistance, and guidance on budgeting and related information.
  • Conduct analyses, reviews, and special studies of budget and/or related information.
  • Utilize budgetary and other automated systems to accomplish budgeting/funding assignments.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship Required
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
  • At least one year of specialized experience at the GS-07 level or equivalent, or a master's degree or equivalent graduate education in a relevant field.
  • Knowledge of commonly used budgetary methods, practices, procedures, regulations, and policies.
  • Skill in gathering, assembling, and analyzing factual information from various sources.
  • Ability to make oral presentations on the budget and conduct budget-related training.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with automated data processing software programs used for budget tasks.
  • Familiarity with financial management certification programs.
