About the position

The Budget Analyst or Senior Budget Analyst at Boise State University plays a crucial role in budgetary analysis and reporting, providing essential support to upper management for decision-making. The position involves consulting with various departments to enhance their budgeting processes, ensuring efficient tracking and compliance with policies. The Senior Budget Analyst takes on additional responsibilities, including processing position requests and assisting in the production of the Appropriated Budget Book, while both roles require strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-level budgetary analysis and reporting for decision-making by upper management.
  • Assist departments in improving their budgeting processes, including tracking efficiency and system training.
  • Analyze departmental activities and propose methods for improved forecasting and processes.
  • Develop, manage, and report on Local and Appropriated budgets, including executing budget transfers.
  • Process position budget requests and perform budgetary analysis and reporting as assigned.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Office of Budget and Planning and other campus departments.
  • Provide training and guidance to university employees on best budgeting practices.
  • Mentor and cross-train other budget analysts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and two years of experience for Budget Analyst; five years for Senior Budget Analyst or equivalent experience.
  • Intermediate knowledge of accounting practices and computer literacy, especially in Excel.
  • Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in work.

Nice-to-haves

  • Higher education experience in budget and/or finance (2-3 years for Budget Analyst; 5 years for Senior Budget Analyst).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • Experience with complex ERP environments.
  • Exceptional budget leadership skills.
  • Experience facilitating hybrid meetings.
