About the position

The Budget Analyst position at the Department of the Treasury involves evaluating, reviewing, and monitoring resource justifications and allocations for assigned program areas. The role emphasizes conformance with the Division business plan and IRS strategic plan, providing periodic analysis of resource needs and budget issues, and developing budget submissions and justifications. This is a temporary position with a potential duration of up to one year, requiring travel and full-time commitment.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, review, and monitor resource justifications and allocations for assigned program areas.
  • Provide periodic analysis of resource needs and budget issues.
  • Identify and respond to budget issues within assigned areas.
  • Assess the financial impact of management decisions on budget programs.
  • Research and analyze budgetary and financial issues concerning assigned program areas.
  • Develop, review, and analyze resource proposals on Division programs.
  • Coordinate budget submissions and justifications with the Chief Financial Officer.
  • Provide technical advice on the status of budget submissions and assess program impact of budget cuts.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service, including experience with budget formulation and financial reviews.
  • Master's or equivalent graduate degree in a related field such as accounting, finance, or economics, or two full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education in a related field.
  • Combination of qualifying graduate education and experience equivalent to the above.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with federal budget processes.
  • Experience interpreting and applying budget instructions and regulatory guidelines.
  • Experience with analytical and problem-solving techniques.
