About the position

The Budget Analyst and Trainer at Stanford University's University Budget Office (UBO) plays a crucial role in managing and improving the university's budgeting processes and systems. This position involves providing training and support for the new Cardinal Budget and Planning system, ensuring effective financial management across the university. The analyst will work closely with various teams to enhance user understanding of budgeting concepts and systems, perform complex financial analyses, and contribute to decision-making processes at the highest levels of university leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Perform highly analytical, complex finance and control functions, including multi-dimensional reconciliations and related analysis.
  • Prepare or review and approve complex transactions and higher-level dollar value transactions.
  • Provide training on new financial systems and serve as a subject matter expert on complex technical and financial matters.
  • Manage budget systems and processes, acting as the user system support contact.
  • Develop tailored deliverables based on needs assessments to improve financial management acumen of administrators, analysts, and managers.
  • Research and synthesize data to identify trends, draw conclusions, and present recommendations.
  • Work with units to redevelop and refine reports to increase utility and assist users with data input into reporting solutions.
  • Develop complex budget and forecasting scenarios and design ad hoc reports.
  • Identify and resolve unique issues with substantial significance and conduct in-depth analysis using advanced technical knowledge.
  • Review, design, and implement internal control programs and manage compliance for the area of responsibility.
  • Lead and execute unit or cross-functional projects and make decisions affecting operational effectiveness.
  • Engage in continuous critical analysis of existing systems and processes to recommend improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and six years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in business applications, particularly Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
  • Advanced knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning and financial systems, as well as internet and computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Advanced professional communication skills, with the ability to prepare materials and communicate effectively to various audiences.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to contribute to or lead part of a multi-functional team.
