About the position

The Budget Analyst position at Southern Nuclear involves a critical role in preparing, developing, and maintaining the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) budgets for various departments at the Vogtle 3&4 site in Waynesboro, Georgia. This position requires a thorough analysis of actual expenditures, preparation of monthly projections, and tracking of all activities associated with department labor, including both company and contract labor. The analyst will also manage requisitions, material issues and returns, procurement card purchases, and business expense statements. In this role, the Budget Analyst will provide leadership and direction for the annual O&M budget process, ensuring that it aligns with Southern Nuclear's financial goals. The analyst will compile and report monthly analyses comparing actual expenditures to budgeted figures, as well as end-of-year projections that drive financial accountability. Effective communication of budgets, projections, initiatives, and results to management is a key responsibility. Additionally, the analyst will support finance efforts to identify, develop, and implement fleet standardization initiatives aimed at increasing efficiency and improving processes. The position also involves providing analysis and support for industry benchmarking initiatives and developing and maintaining fleet processes to ensure consistency across operations. The Budget Analyst will manage special assignments and fleet initiatives, performing ad hoc analyses as needed to support the organization's financial objectives. This role is essential in ensuring that Southern Nuclear continues to operate at the highest levels of safety and reliability while generating carbon-free electricity for millions of homes and businesses.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, develop, and maintain the O&M budgets for various departments.
  • Analyze actual expenditures and prepare monthly projections.
  • Track all activities associated with department labor, requisitions, material issues and returns, procurement card purchases, and business expense statements.
  • Provide leadership and direction for the annual O&M budget process.
  • Compile and report monthly analysis of actual-to-budget data and end-of-year projections.
  • Communicate budgets, projections, initiatives, and results to management effectively.
  • Support finance in identifying, developing, and implementing fleet standardization initiatives.
  • Provide analysis and support for industry benchmarking initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain fleet processes to ensure consistency.
  • Manage special assignments and perform other ad hoc analysis as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA, MBA, or advanced degree is a plus.
  • At least two years of experience in financial and accounting disciplines, including financial planning and analysis, and budgeting.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Operational accounting, budgeting, and cost control experience (nuclear generation, transmission, distribution, manufacturing) is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of utility accounting and finance and knowledge of specific accounting requirements of Federal Electric Regulatory Commission (FERC) is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments simultaneously and coordinate site and corporate groups.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple owners and organizations to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, self-starter, decision-maker, flexible, self-directed, and a team player.
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office products.
  • Knowledge of Southern Company financial applications (Oracle and Maximo) is a plus.
