About the position

The Budget Analyst position within the Department of the Air Force serves as a resources advisor, focusing on the formulation, execution, and analysis of the organization's budget and funding requirements. This role is essential for ensuring effective financial management and compliance with regulations, providing guidance on budgetary matters, and conducting analyses to support decision-making processes.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the functional point of contact for day-to-day budget and financial issues.
  • Perform budget formulation work involving the review and preparation of budget estimates and financial plans.
  • Monitor obligations incurred and actual expenditures of funds during budget execution and administration.
  • Provide advice, assistance, and guidance on budgeting and related information.
  • Conduct analyses, reviews, and special studies of budget and related information.
  • Utilize budgetary and automated systems to accomplish budgeting and funding assignments.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • At least one year of specialized experience at the GS-07 level or equivalent, including knowledge of budgetary methods and practices.
  • A master's degree or equivalent graduate degree, or two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, or a combination of experience and education.
  • Knowledge of automated data processing software programs used for budget tasks.
  • Skill in gathering, assembling, and analyzing factual information from various sources.
  • Ability to make oral presentations on budget matters and conduct budget-related training.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with financial management in a federal government context.
  • Familiarity with the Department of Defense budgetary processes.
