The Budget Analyst position at Wichita Public Schools is a full-time role that plays a crucial part in supporting the District's annual budget, Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, Kansas State budget forms, and annual financial audit. This position requires collaboration with various departments within the District and involves training building personnel while responding to their inquiries throughout the year. The Budget Analyst will be responsible for the essential duties associated with the preparation of the district's budget, monitoring budgets for applicable funds, programs, and schools, and ensuring compliance with internal and external reporting requirements, including those mandated by the Kansas State Department of Education. In this role, the Budget Analyst will assist in the preparation of the Kansas State budget forms, ensuring accuracy and timeliness, as well as contribute to the annual budget book and the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. The analyst will prepare journal entries and budget transactions necessary for maintaining the district's budget within the financial system and will also prepare work papers and adjusting journal entries for the annual financial audit. The position requires a deep understanding of assigned funds, programs, and schools, and the analyst will schedule quarterly budget review meetings with fund and program managers to ensure effective budget management. Additionally, the Budget Analyst will respond professionally to inquiries from program managers, employees, and the community regarding budget-related activities. The role may involve cross-training on other positions within the Budget Department and attending training sessions and seminars as approved. The analyst must ensure that important functions are covered during absences and may be required to assist with additional duties as assigned by the supervisor. Limited travel between schools and central offices may be necessary, and the position may require some overtime and attendance at required meetings.
