About the position

The Budget Analyst at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College is responsible for analyzing, preparing, and managing budgetary data to support financial decision-making processes. This role involves evaluating costs and revenues associated with new program proposals and organizational restructuring, ensuring alignment of financial resources with the college's strategic goals. The Budget Analyst will collaborate with various departments to provide comprehensive budget analyses, forecasting, and financial recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development, preparation, and implementation of the college's annual budget.
  • Monitor and analyze budget performance, identifying variances and making recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Prepare detailed budget reports, including forecasts, projections, and financial summaries, for presentation to senior management.
  • Evaluate the financial impact of new program proposals, including cost estimates, revenue forecasts, and return on investment (ROI) analysis.
  • Conduct financial analyses for proposed organizational restructuring initiatives, assessing potential cost savings and impacts on operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with academic and administrative departments to gather and validate data for financial evaluations.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to support long-term financial planning and decision-making.
  • Provide financial forecasting and scenario analysis to inform strategic planning and resource allocation.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial plans, including multi-year revenue and expenditure forecasts.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to the Director of Finance, senior leadership, and the Board of Trustees.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations related to budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Work closely with department heads and program managers to understand their financial needs and provide guidance on budget management.
  • Communicate complex financial information in a clear and concise manner to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to support strategic initiatives and process improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in budget analysis, financial planning, or a related field, preferably in an educational or public sector environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel).

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • Professional certification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA).
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations related to higher education budgeting and finance.
  • Experience with forecasting and budgeting tools in Workday.
