About the position

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a resources advisor and budget analyst, performing day-to-day control and management involving the formulation, execution, and analysis of the organization's budget and funding requirements. As a Budget Analyst for the Department of the Air Force, you will be responsible for ensuring that the budgetary processes align with the strategic goals of the organization. This role requires a thorough understanding of budgetary methods, practices, and regulations, as well as the ability to analyze financial data and provide insights to support decision-making processes. In this position, you will act as the functional point of contact for day-to-day budget and financial issues. You will work closely with Major Command (MAJCOM) and budget office counterparts to obtain, monitor, and track the organization’s funds. Your responsibilities will include performing budget formulation work, which involves reviewing and preparing budget estimates and financial plans. You will also review and analyze budget requests submitted by organizational activities to ensure their consistency, accuracy, and adherence to established instructions. Additionally, you will be involved in budget execution and administration work, which includes monitoring obligations incurred and the actual expenditures of funds. You will track and review obligations, expenditures, reimbursable orders, and requests for allotments, identifying and reporting discrepancies that are not in keeping with annual work plans. Your role will also involve providing advice, assistance, and guidance on budgeting and related information, conducting analyses, reviews, and special studies of budget and related information. You will utilize automated systems and computer-generated products to accomplish budgeting and funding assignments, ensuring quality checks of the organization’s automated system database information and resolving any significant problems with the appropriate points of contact.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Males must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must comply with the provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program.
  • Must safeguard classified or sensitive budget-related information and/or files.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • Specialized experience of at least one year at the GS-07 level or equivalent, including knowledge of budgetary methods and practices.
  • Education: A master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, or a combination of education and experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of automated data processing software programs and capabilities used to accomplish budget/funding tasks.
  • Skill in gathering, assembling, and analyzing factual information from various sources.
  • Ability to make oral presentations on the budget and conduct budget-related training.
