About the position

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a resources advisor and budget analyst, performing day-to-day control and management involving the formulation, execution, and analysis of the organization's budget and funding requirements. As a Budget Analyst for the Department of the Air Force, you will be responsible for ensuring that the budgetary processes align with the strategic goals of the organization. This role requires a thorough understanding of budgetary methods, practices, and regulations, as well as the ability to analyze financial data and provide insights to support decision-making processes. In this position, you will act as the functional point of contact for day-to-day budget and financial issues, collaborating with MAJCOM and budget office counterparts to obtain, monitor, and track the organization’s funds. You will perform budget formulation work, which includes reviewing and preparing budget estimates and financial plans. Additionally, you will analyze budget requests submitted by organizational activities to ensure their consistency, accuracy, and adherence to established guidelines. Your responsibilities will also include budget execution and administration, where you will monitor obligations incurred and actual expenditures of funds. You will be tasked with tracking and reviewing obligations, expenditures, reimbursable orders, and requests for allotments, identifying and reporting discrepancies that do not align with annual work plans. Furthermore, you will provide advice, assistance, and guidance on budgeting and related information, conducting analyses, reviews, and special studies of budget-related data. This role will require you to utilize automated systems and computer-generated products to accomplish budgeting and funding assignments effectively.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Males must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • Specialized experience of at least one year at the GS-07 level or equivalent in other pay systems.
  • Knowledge of commonly used budgetary methods, practices, procedures, regulations, and policies.
  • Skill in gathering, assembling, and analyzing factual information from various sources.
  • Ability to make oral presentations on the budget and conduct budget-related training.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's or equivalent graduate degree in a relevant field.
  • 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree.
  • Experience with automated data processing software programs used for budget tasks.
