About the position

This is a Non-state Service position within the Legislative Budget Office (LBO) of Hinds County, MS. The incumbent will play a crucial role in evaluating agency operations and performance by analyzing all major fiscal activities of the agency. This professional work involves a comprehensive analysis of budget requests submitted by state agencies and institutions, ultimately generating a recommended funding level for submission to the Joint Legislative Budget Committee (JLBC). The position requires a strong understanding of accounting, auditing, and administrative organization practices, as well as the ability to navigate the complexities of state budgeting processes. The Budget Analyst will be responsible for conducting detailed financial analyses, preparing reports, and presenting findings to stakeholders. This role demands strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to understand and communicate technical material effectively. The incumbent must possess strong verbal communication skills and the ability to remain objective in a political environment. Proficiency with Excel is essential, as the analyst will utilize this tool for data analysis and reporting. In addition to the technical skills required, the position also emphasizes the importance of collaboration with various state agencies and institutions to ensure accurate budget submissions. Requirements

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in business administration, finance, public administration, or a Certified Public Accountant license.
  • Two years of work experience in budgeting within government agencies or private organizations.
