About the position

The University of South Carolina Aiken is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Budget Analyst to join the Finance and Administration Division. This full-time position offers a competitive salary of $59,581 per year and is designed for individuals who are passionate about financial management and analysis within an academic environment. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the budget oversight and management of various campus units, including the Wellness Center, Etherredge Center, Ruth Patrick Science Education Center, and more. Under administrative direction, the Budget Analyst will engage in a variety of professional accounting activities that encompass financial analysis and reporting, reconciliation, ledger corrections, and budget planning. This role requires a professional application of accounting principles, practices, and techniques in accordance with industry standards, current laws, and university policies. The Budget Analyst will be responsible for reviewing the General Ledger monthly to ensure accuracy and completeness, processing monthly journal entries, and performing quarterly payroll analysis and reconciliation. Additionally, the analyst will support departments with budget oversight and management by providing necessary reports, conducting research support, and assisting with budget reviews and evaluations. The position also involves coordinating with departmental staff to address variances and providing training for new employees on PeopleSoft Finance and Finance Intranet. Moreover, the Budget Analyst will assist the Budget Director with special projects, including preparing journal entries, account analysis, and year-end reports. The role requires effective communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of accounting principles and be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel. Responsibilities

  • Support the USC Aiken Budget Office in the oversight of various campus units including External Programs, Wellness Center, and others.
  • Review General Ledger monthly for accuracy and completeness.
  • Process monthly journal entries and other corrections as needed.
  • Perform quarterly payroll analysis and reconciliation.
  • Manage chart field requests as needed.
  • Review and ensure Admissions and Sales Tax liability accounts are accurate.
  • Provide reports to department heads as needed.
  • Provide research support and trend analysis to various departments regarding their budgeting model.
  • Assist departments with budget review and ongoing evaluation.
  • Coordinate with departmental staff to address variances and make corrections as needed.
  • Provide training for PeopleSoft Finance and Finance Intranet to new employees as needed.
  • Support the Budget Director in special projects including preparing journal entries and account analysis.
  • Assist with the preparation of annual budget submission and quarterly/year-end reports.
  • Communicate with campus about new financial policies and implementation of new procedures.
  • Prepare ad-hoc reports and trend analysis as needed.
  • Assist with Grant Fund Management oversight and accounting as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, budgeting, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of related experience in accounting, budgeting, and/or fund management or equivalency.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Skill in performing detailed numerical computations and preparing detailed reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to manage a variety of duties simultaneously.
