About the position

The Budget Analyst position at the National Weather Service (NWS) involves monitoring and managing budget execution, negotiating funding amounts, and providing financial consultation to management. This role is critical in ensuring effective financial planning and resource distribution within the organization, contributing to the overall mission of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Responsibilities

  • Monitor budget execution and negotiate budget funding amounts with program managers.
  • Perform routine and recurring budget administration duties.
  • Gather, review, and consolidate narrative information and statistical data to formulate and present budget requests.
  • Check the accuracy of budget and program data.
  • Review and recommend approval, disapproval, or modification of budget execution documents.
  • Serve as a financial consultant to management on budgeting techniques and resource distribution.
  • Assist in drafting budget policies and guidance for the region.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service for GS-09 applicants.
  • Specialized experience must include assisting with compiling and presenting financial data for budget reviews.
  • For GS-11, one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level is required, including preparing analyses of financial data.
  • For GS-12, one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level is required, including tracking budget forecasts and utilizing financial systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with federal budget processes and regulations.
  • Knowledge of financial management products and techniques.
