About the position

The Budget Analyst position at the Department of Energy involves developing, coordinating, and administering financial systems and services across the Upper Gre Plains Region. This role focuses on budgeting, accounting, program analysis, and financial reporting, providing advisory services to management and program officials. The position requires physical presence at designated duty locations and entails occasional travel.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, analyze, and evaluate budget execution with emphasis on program objectives and resources.
• Report to Regional Management and Headquarters (HQ).
• Formulate, develop, review, coordinate, and edit budgets and revalidations for the Region.
• Evaluate monthly obligations, ceilings, expenditures, and outlays of all fund sources.
• Monitor the operation of major programs for compliance with legislative authority.
• Independently respond to questions and inquiries from auditors, customers, HQ, and Regional staff.
• Analyze information for trends and deviations from management/customer plans; reconcile budget requirements and make corrective adjustments.
• Present conclusions to management and stakeholders with recommendations to correct or enhance trends.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
• One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 level in the Federal service, including budget formulation, development, review, coordination, and editing.
• Experience in preparing budget estimates, writing justifications, tracking obligations, and monitoring budget execution.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in financial analysis and management reporting.
• Knowledge of federal budgeting policies and regulations.
