About the position

The Budget Analyst position at the Department of Defense involves monitoring and managing budgetary resources to ensure effective utilization of funds. The role requires analyzing budget trends, reconciling financial transactions, and providing support to military budget officers in preparing budget requests and forecasts. The analyst will play a crucial role in ensuring that financial operations align with organizational goals and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Ensures programs are closely monitored ensuring equitable and timely funds transfer and adjustment.
• Performs resource management actions to ensure effective utilization of available funds.
• Analyzes trends and developments in budget planning, programming and execution.
• Reconciles contractual and supply system transactions with corresponding financial system transactions.
• Reviews budget requests and analyses provided by Brigade (Military) Budget Officers and S4s.

Requirements

• Must obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
• Must obtain/maintain a Financial Management Certification Level 2 within 24 months of entrance on duty.
• One year of specialized experience in formulating budget estimates and utilizing automated systems to review budget data for GS-09 level.
• Master's degree or equivalent graduate education in Accounting or Finance for GS-09 level.
• One year of specialized experience in monitoring obligations and preparing budget estimates for GS-11 level.
• Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in Accounting or Finance for GS-11 level.

Nice-to-haves
