About the position

MDW Associates is seeking a Budget Analyst to provide sound financial stewardship, expert analysis, and innovative approaches to our National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) client in Huntsville, Alabama. This position requires some onsite presence and involves essential job functions that include serving as an analyst to systematically integrate business, cost estimating, and financial management processes. The goal is to ensure the efficient stewardship of public funds. The Budget Analyst will support the formulation of strategic financial plans, prepare cost estimates, and correlate financing requirements into executable budgets. A thorough knowledge of the allocation, execution, and administration of approved budgets is essential for this role. The Budget Analyst will assess products and procedures for compliance with Government standards, accounting principles, internal controls, and multi-tiered system application standards. It is crucial that tasks are completed within the time frame specified by the client, and the analyst will assist in the preparation of milestone status reports and presentations for colleagues, subordinates, management, and end user representatives. The role requires the ability to meet constantly changing deadlines and accept new assignments with varying requirements, delivering to a high level of completeness and accuracy. Additionally, the analyst may serve as a mentor and resource for junior contractor budget analysts, assisting with their development and leveraging expertise to support multiple Organizations and/or Centers.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an analyst to integrate business, cost estimating, and financial management processes.
  • Support the formulation of strategic financial plans and prepare cost estimates.
  • Correlate financing requirements into executable budgets.
  • Assess products and procedures for compliance with Government standards and accounting principles.
  • Ensure tasks are completed within specified time frames and assist in preparing milestone status reports.
  • Meet changing deadlines and accept new assignments with varying requirements.
  • Serve as a mentor for junior contractor budget analysts.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of specialized experience in budget analysis or related field.
  • Experience in monitoring, analyzing, and reporting budget formulation and execution activities for complex programs.
  • Proficient with Excel and accounting systems of the Centers supported.
  • Familiar with activity-based costing, business case analysis, and outsourcing requirements.
  • Strong analytical skills to analyze financial data using advanced tools and processes.
  • Proficient in MS Office Applications, including advanced knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SAP and Business Objects (BOBJ) or other accounting systems.
  • Experience developing cost proposals for Principal Investigators.
  • Knowledge of Government Financial Processes.
  • Power BI experience.
