About the position

The Budget Analyst position at the University of North Carolina Wilmington involves providing complex comparative analysis of budgets, position control, and financial data within the University's ERP System, Banner. The role is essential for managing day-to-day position control processes and ensuring accurate and timely completion of budget documents in collaboration with various campus partners. The analyst will also contribute to various Budget Office activities and projects as needed, supporting the overall mission of the university.

Responsibilities

  • Provide complex comparative analysis of all budgets and financial data in the University's ERP System, Banner.
  • Manage the Budget Office Inbox and route communications to appropriate team members.
  • Work closely with Campus and Human Resources partners to ensure accurate and timely position control actions and budget documents.
  • Validate budget revisions that include salary and benefit accounts.
  • Involved in processes such as position creation/abolishment, cost redistributions, and encumbrance feeds.
  • Contribute to other Budget Office activities and projects as deemed necessary by Management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public administration, business administration, accounting, or related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Two to four years' experience working in a financially complex organization is strongly desired.
  • Ability to detect trends in financial data and determine the cause and effect of scenarios.
  • Ability to identify risks associated with financial transactions.
  • Experience working with Banner Human Resources and Finance.
  • Intermediate technical and analytical experience.
  • Fundamental knowledge and application of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate financial data to management.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team-oriented environment and independently.
  • Ability to manage multiple and competing deadlines successfully.
  • Tremendous attention to detail in all levels of work.
  • Excellent computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, SharePoint, and PowerPoint).
