About the position

As a Budget Analyst in the Administrative Division of the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, you will play a crucial role in providing financial and analytical support to the Budget team. Your primary responsibilities will include gathering and consolidating information and statistical data necessary for budget operations and financial reporting. You will assist in monitoring and tracking obligations and expenditures for the office, ensuring that all financial activities are accurately recorded and reported. Additionally, you will be responsible for generating a variety of budgetary reports that will aid in decision-making processes. In this role, you will also assist with assigning accounting classification codes and entering this information into an electronic accounting system. A key part of your duties will involve reviewing bills against source documents prior to payment, ensuring the accuracy of goods and services received. You will review financial requests and forms for completeness of information and authorized signatures, which is essential for maintaining the integrity of the office's financial operations. As you progress in your training and experience, your responsibilities will increase, and you will be assigned more complex tasks, allowing for professional growth within the organization.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level, involving applying concepts and methods to meet financial reporting requirements.
  • A Master's or equivalent graduate degree in a closely related field (e.g., Accounting, Finance), or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or an LL.B or J.D. if related.
  • Combination of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements.
