About the position

The Budget Analyst position at the Smithsonian Institution is responsible for managing various financial functions, including budget formulation, execution, and financial systems management. This role is crucial for ensuring that program requirements are effectively translated into funding needs, and that funds are allocated efficiently to support the museum's operations and objectives. The analyst will provide in-depth analysis of budget requests, forecast funding needs, and advise program managers on funding availability.

Responsibilities

• Ensure program requirements are translated into funding requirements and efficiently distribute available funds to support museum operations.
• Use analytical methods to perform in-depth analysis of budget requests, exploring program tradeoffs and alternative funding methods.
• Forecast funding needs and cost trends, advising program managers on the status of their funds and funding availability.
• Manage aspects of the federal and trust budget process, including planning, formulation, presentation, allocation, execution, tracking, and reporting.
• Advise NASM Leaders on policies, procedures, recordkeeping, and appropriate use of various funding types.

Requirements

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service, related to formulating budgets and tracking their execution.
• Experience using analytical tools to provide in-depth analysis of budget requests and preparing budget forecasts and projections.

Nice-to-haves

• Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field.
• Three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.
