About the position

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a budget analyst in the 21st Comptroller Squadron at Peterson Space Force Base, CO. The role involves performing a variety of budget functions that include the formulation, execution, and analysis of budgets, as well as conducting economic and cost analysis studies for substantive programs and support activities. The budget analyst will be responsible for preparing detailed analyses of annual and multi-year budget estimates for assigned organizations and programs, consolidating these into a comprehensive budget request. In addition to budget formulation, the analyst will engage in budget execution and administration, which entails monitoring obligations incurred and actual expenditures across various funding sources. This includes direct annual, multi-year, and no-year appropriations, as well as apportionments, allotments, and transfers of funds from other agencies. The analyst will provide advice, assistance, and guidance on budgeting and related information, conducting analyses, reviews, and special studies as necessary. Furthermore, the position requires leading and performing specialized economic analyses and impact studies to support various budget programs, utilizing automated budgetary systems and computer-generated products to accomplish these tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Perform budget formulation work involving preparation of detailed analyses of annual and/or multi-year budget estimates for assigned organizations/programs into a consolidated budget request.
  • Engage in budget execution and administration work, monitoring obligations incurred and actual expenditures of a budget with different sources and types of funding.
  • Provide advice, assistance, and guidance on budgeting and related information.
  • Conduct analyses, reviews, and special studies of budget and/or related information.
  • Lead and/or perform specialized, individual economic analyses and impact studies in support of a variety of budget programs.
  • Use automated budgetary system(s) and computer-generated products in accomplishing budgeting assignments.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Males must be registered for Selective Service.
  • The work requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Specialized experience of at least one year at the GS-09 level or equivalent, including knowledge of budgetary methods, practices, procedures, regulations, and policies.
  • Education qualifications include a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, or a combination of experience and education.

  • Knowledge of commonly used budgetary methods, practices, procedures, regulations, policies, and processes to formulate, justify, and execute assigned budget.
  • Skill in the application of analytical methods and techniques such as cost-benefit analysis and statistical analyses.
