About the position

The Budget Analyst position at Lindahl Reed, Inc. is a full-time role based in Washington, DC, with a hybrid work model requiring 2 to 3 days in the office. The successful candidate will support the Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) by assisting the Budget Office in various financial functions including budget planning, formulation, justification, and execution. This role is critical in helping the DOE team with strategic planning and tactical activities, ensuring that the budget aligns with the organization's strategic vision. In this position, the Budget Analyst will advise and assist the Director on strategic matters, develop corporate budget and management tools, and collaborate with key stakeholders to create annual budgets and long-term financial strategies. The analyst will conduct in-depth financial analysis to evaluate business performance, identify trends, and highlight areas for improvement. Additionally, the role involves preparing monthly financial reporting packages, including dashboards and other financial reports for business leaders, and assisting in the creation and review of various external reports and standard operating procedures (SOPs). The Budget Analyst will also analyze processing flows, recommend improvements to internal controls, and support new initiatives as needed. Establishing financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards will be essential responsibilities of this role. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPivot, and macros, and the ability to operate autonomously in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Advise and assist the Director on strategic matters, strategies, and tools for budget development.
  • Support the development of corporate budget and management tools for effective collaboration on budget justification.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop annual budgets and long-term financial strategies.
  • Ensure budgeting and forecasting align with business and strategic planning.
  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis to evaluate business performance and identify trends.
  • Support the development of reports, models, and financial analytic tools for performance measurement.
  • Prepare monthly financial reporting packages, including dashboards and trends for business leaders.
  • Assist with preparation of management presentations to communicate strategies.
  • Create and review external reports and SOPs for system requirements.
  • Analyze processing flows and recommend improvements to internal controls.
  • Support new initiatives as needed.
  • Establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, and reporting standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or related field.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience.
  • 3+ years' experience in Federal financial and budget management, including budget planning and execution.
  • Knowledge of Federal financial management and the federal budget cycle.
  • Understanding of budget administration and analysis principles.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to operate autonomously in fast-paced environments with minimal oversight.
  • Experience producing professional and accurate reports and documents.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Keen analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including PowerPivot and macros.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with financial methods and practices for assessing financial stability of Federal grants.
