About the position

The Budget Analyst position at Harris County involves advanced financial analysis and modeling to support budget development and execution for various county departments. The role requires collaboration with department heads to ensure accurate budget submissions and compliance with financial regulations. The analyst will also conduct research on budgeting best practices and present findings to enhance the county's financial strategies.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the development of annual budgets as the primary budget contact for selected county departments.
• Analyze departmental budgets by reviewing budget requests for accuracy and content.
• Provide timely and accurate reports on county departments' budget execution and conformance throughout the fiscal year.
• Research budgeting best practices from benchmark counties and present findings to the team.
• Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to management and stakeholders.
• Perform extensive financial modeling in support of key county initiatives.
• Engage in learning and training opportunities to develop core skills.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
• Two (2) years of related professional work experience.
• Knowledge of basic principles and practices of budget or fiscal analysis.
• Excellent analytical skills and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Strong communication skills, including presentation and writing.
